Code of Conduct

All members would be expected to adhere to the following code of conduct:

1. All members must hold adequate Public Liability Insurance.

2. To give the public a reliable, efficient sweeping service.

3. To ensure that APICS standards are maintained by all members working to the highest standards.

4. The chimney sweep at all times should carry sufficient equipment to complete the job he was employed to do.

5. To ensure reasonable precautions are taken to ensure customer's premises are kept clean by using suitable sheeting, screens etc, and a powerful vacuum.

6. To ensure that the chimney and all resulting soot has been removed.

7. To fully inform the customer of any problem that has been found in writing. To advise them of the importance of having chimneys/flues cleaned to the requirements of BS 6461 & BS 74566, now superseded by BS EN 12391-1.

Equipment Required

Below is the basic requirement. Local conditions may dictate other equipment may also be needed.

Safety: Hard Hat, mask, earplugs, gloves, knee pads, overalls, safety footwear, eye wash and First Aid Kit.

Sweeping: Machine, dust sheets, torch, mirror, floor sheets, suitable toolkit, bags for soot/debris, tape or something appropriate to seal a grate and various rods and brushes (both of which are to be suitable for each job.)

A vehicle suitable for its purpose.

All equipment MUST be in a good and serviceable condition.

A 'van check' will be undertaken to ensure that the applicant for membership has the required minimum equipment.
